REVIEW:
1. ALONSO Fernando [ESP] (QP: 3)
Fernando did a really fantastic race. His Renault worked perfectly. Through the whole race his lead was never in danger. He said after the race at the press conference: “It maybe looked more difficult than it was- it was really not difficult for me. My position was never in danger.” Even if there where 4 (!) Saftey car- times, and Fernando always lost all the seconds he fas in front before, he did quite well and was always in the lead (except after the Pit Stops). Really good race, congratulations to Fernando and the Team.
2. RÄIKKÖNEN Kimi [FIN] (QP: 4)
This was the first race for Kimi which seemed quite ‘normal’. This time he had no real bad luck, except maybe one he made himself. In the first lap directly after the re-start after the first SafteyCar- time, when he overtook Jenson Button, his brakes blocked and after it he got some problems with the tyres. He lost 2- 4 seconds per lap in this time. During the second Saftey-car time he was able to change his front and his tyres and after this the car worked quite good again. When the last 10 laps had reached he was 10 seconds behind Alonso, but at the end it were just 1,5 seconds. Of course Alonso didn’t give all the power at this time, but i think that the McLaren has a quite good package,it just needs to get more competitive with the engiene.
All in all, Kimi did a quite good race, except of the braking mistake at the beginning. But when he wants to get the world championships his team really needs to work really hard now.
3. SCHUMACHER Ralf [GER] (QP: 7)
When i watched the race i suddenly was quite surprised when i saw Ralf Schumacher in the front group. Toyota had a quite good 3-pit stops- strategie, and i think also the safteyCar times helped Ralf a lot to get 3rd even he had got a drive through- penalty [he forgot to press the speed limit button when he entered the pit lane] . I haven’t thought before that Toyota got SO competitive again. I don’t think that this is the normal niveau of them at the moment, they really had good luck, but I’m sure, that they worked good, and that they will get a higher niveau during the season [*crm*-and a personal opinion: with a budget of 5 000 000 Dollar a year this should be possible...)
4. HEIDFELD Nick [GER] (QP: 6)
He had real bad luck in the last GP when his engiene blew up in the few last laps. This time the BMW-engiene worked better and so Nick was able to get the 4th final place with a real good race. Between the safteyCar-times he also had been second for a while, but Kimi Räikkönen and Ralf Schumacher ovetook him[also Montoya, but this problem solved itself...). But of course BMW-Sauber is in its first year, and for this the previous Sauber- Petronas- Ferrari-Team does quite good. Nick made a race without any mistakes, and i think he is on the right way.
5. FISICHELLA GianCarlo [ITA] (QP: 2)
This 5th place was a little gift from Jenson Button, who had the real bad luck to get an engiene-blew in the last corners of the GP and he had to park his car 15 metres in front of the finish lane. GianCarlo had a few problems at the start with his car, i think the engiene went off, but i can’t say it for sure. The whole field had to drive a second warm up lap (for this they need to drive one lap less in the race) and GianCarlo had to start from the Pit lane as last. After this he overtook most of the field. One funny situation was when his box told him per radio, that it was not possible, that he was 2 second slower than his teammate, and that he had to driver faster. It seemed as if GianCarlo took this serious and he really went faster. So, in common it was a good race, except of a few mistakes at the beginning, but he could be much better of course.
6. VILLENEUVE Jacques [CAN] (QP. 7)
With Jacques it’s nearly the same as with Nick. His team is in a learning-time and even if the previous Sauber-team had of course much knowledge of the formula 1, there are many new people in the team and they have to perform in a completely difficult way. The race of Jacques was, like always, not that amazing, but he also had not big mistakes and so you can say, that the race was quite okay for him. The possible aim has reached.
7. BARICHELLO Rubens [BRA] (QP. 14)
I get the feeling that Rubens has got many problems with the Honda. I think it is a good car, specially the engiene of course (1000 horsepower), but i guess that he has problem with its way to drive, because he is really no bad driver, but when i look, that Jenson got the poleposition and him just anywhere in the middle-field, then i think, that it is not completely his fault. Of course I’m sure, that the team gaves him exactly the same material as Button, because the team needs points. But i think that he will perform better and better at every race, and this 7th place is maybe a point into the right way.
8. COULTHARD David [GBR] (QP:12)
On this place normally should stand Scott Speed, but unfortunately the positions of the RedBull and the ToroRosso driver had been changed, because Speed overtook Coulthard when there was the yellow flag outisde and he didn’t let Coulthard pass again, which is a broken rule. For this they changed their positions. But anyway, the RedBull team had not a very statisfying weekend this time. Klien shot himself out in the first few laps after a broken part in his behind part of the car (which came from a start crash, which wasn’t his fault). I hope that it will be better next time- what shall i say- I’m an austrian, and of course i hope for both of ‘my’ austrian teams )
Personal opinion:
I’m so sorry for Scott! I would have wished him this one point really, really much, but what shall i say?- you broke a rule boy, that’s racing- and think on poor Jenson Button ;-)- i don’t know who is more poor- even if i laughed more when Button’s car parked these 15 metres in front of the finish line… when you drive 57 laps, more than 300 kilometres- and then you miss 15 metres for the finish… then it’s really, really hard from destiny
All in all a very exciting race, for Australia it also were quite a lot of overtakings, normally there are hardly any, but it seems to me that the formula 1 of the new season has a very competitive middle-field, so also the fights there seem very interesting.
Many guys fell out- both
Ferraris [Felipe Massa: crash after the start,
Michael Schumacher: crashed himself into a wall] and also both drivers of
Williams [Nico Rosberg: engiene,
Mark Webber: hydraulics],
Montoya [he said that the electizity put the engiene off after he went over the curps, but I don’t know if I shall believe him this…],
Liuzzi [crashed himself],
Klien [destroyed car after the start crash- when he went over the curps a few laps later it destroyed completely],
Button [yeah- I told you already- the engiene- :P- *gg* I can’t help myself, but I think it is amusing- I never saw something like this before ],
Trulli [startcrash]

Fernando Alonso and Kimi Räikkönen after the victories ceremonies
[when you see this pic you can get a false idea of them :p]

Jenson button had really bad luck with his Honda-
after 57 laps and 307,559 km he just missed 15 metres into the finish…
