Alexandre Despatie

Hej alltogether!

I know, you all are impatiently waiting for a new article of me ;)
Well, I already wrote about Formula 1 and tennis- I guess for sports like skijumping, skiing and nordic combined we all hate the snow a bit too much right now, and so I think the best would be, if I will talk just about summer sports the next 6 month ;)

So, when diving is no summersport, then I don’t know!

Ayrton Senna da Silva

21st of March 1960-
1st ofMay 1994

On March 21st Ayrton Senna would have been 46 years old. But I don’t want to talk about his death too much (I will do this for sure on 1st May this year), I want more to talk about the life of this wonderful, genious man.
Ayrton Senna da Silva was born on March 21st 1960 in Sao Paulo/ Brazil. He grew up in a rich family, and soon he started to drive carts. Without doubts he had enourmos much talent, and he even learnt in young years to work competitive and successful. Senna was a terribly egoist- no, don’t think I’m speaking bad about dead people, this is just the truth- and in the world of motorsport, specially formula 1, it is not bad to call somebody an egoist- they are all like that- it’s nearly some kind of certificate to call them like that :)
Ayrton won every class he was to I think… he came- and won- this was nearly a fact. Of course he didn’t need long to come to the highest class of motorsport:

The Formula one

His first two years he was at Toleman and Lotus, till he came to McLaren- Honda, with this team he won three titles. His teammates there were for example Gerhard Berger, and austrian, who played many tricks to Ayrton. Even he did this often, they were friends. I think Berger taught him, not to take the whole life such serious, because Ayrton always was working hard, and he let himself hardly ever a part of freetime. But Gerhard Berger said once:

“He taught me much about motorsport, but I taught him laughing!”

The most important for Ayrton was winning and to be successful. He couldn’t get it into his head, that there were other people, who maybe were as good as him- the possibility that somebody would be BETTER than him… I think this was never also just a bit in his head- this possibility was closed out, and never asked for.

Alain Prost was also a teammate of Ayrton Senna… but teammate is definitely the false expression- they hated each other. Even Team- rivals is too nice… also when they were not in the same team anymore, they still stayed rivals till the end. There were people who said, that Senna and Prost apologized each other a while before Senna’s death, but I think this is just a story, that the world won’t seem so bad to the people, because I think, they never would have been able to apologize anything- Prost not, and Senna, this egoistic, also sure not.

Ayrton always wanted to help the street kids in his homecountry Brazil. After his death, his sister Viviane opened the Ayrton- Senna organization, and with this million of streetkids are able to get a warm meal a day, and their future is saved for a while. Already 5 million kids could be helped- and they are becoming more and more every day.

So also one of Ayrton’s biggest dreams came true- to help children.

ACELERA, AYRTON!

Formula 1

I think everybody around me knowes, that I love sports- specially formula 1 and skijumping. Unfortunately skijumping season will be over this weekend, with my personal highlight, the skiflying in Planica (Slovenia)- but when skijumping is over it always means to me, that a new Formula 1 season starts- actually it has started- last weekend, in Bahrain.

1.
ALONSO Fernando (ESP): QP: 4; A quite good race from Fernando- and the new season started like the old had finished- with a victory of him… well, he has quite a lot of work to do in this season, if he wants to make the title again, but I’m sure this first victory was the first little step in this way. No absolutely amazing race, but more than okay, this for sure. I really can’t understand him, why he wants to go to McLaren… this was not clever in my eyes, but it was his decision, and if he wants to have Ron Dennis as boss, he shall go…

2.
SCHUMACHER Michael (GER): QP: 1; Yes, seems as if Ferrari is back- but before the fans of the Scuderia will start to sing songs for the next victory, i would say: wait at least till the next race, because they tested on Bahrain as the only team, and the world can look different in Malaysia then. But anyway, Ferrari seems to have worked a lot during winter break and they are sure much better than last year. If it is enough for the championships… we’ll see…

3.
RÄIKKÖNEN Kimi (FIN): QP: 22; To be honest, i believe in this guy, but that he would come from start place 22 to 3… phew- I didn’t allow myself to dream about that- but what shall I say- Kimi made it possible- really great race, but I saw, that he was not statisfied with it, when he was on the podium. Sure he can’t be- because who knowes which place he would have been, if the car had been better… however, McLaren sucked and this was it.

4.
BUTTON Jenson (GBR): QP: 3; Hm, Button had a quite unspectacular race- he came very close to kimi at the end 0,6 seconds in finnish, but 4th is 4th… there also were closer finnishes in past. I think he could do more, but I think it seems easier for me outside, because if he would have the chance to get better, he would do it I think.

5.
MONTOYA Juan- Pablo (COL):
QP:5; Monty, what’s up with you? Okay, maybe Kimi had got the better strategie, because he was full with fuel at the start and he just needed one Pit stop- but how the devil could you make it that your teammate who starts from P22 gets 3rd and you, who started from P5 got 5th? Hm… I won’t say too much about it, because I also don’t know exactly if there was something wrong with the car (even it didn’t seem like that for me)- but however- go on, Juan! I’m looking forward to see a better Performance of you in the next races.

6.
WEBBER Mark (AUS): QP:7; Hm, very similar to Jenson Button- quite unspectacular, nothing really great, but also no mistakes… you can say, that Mark did his Job quite well, but I think he will get problems this year, to beat his young teammate Nico Rosberg.

7.
ROSBERG Nico (GER): QP:12; There was just one mistake in Nico Rosbergs drive today, and this was in the first lap after the first corner, because he crashed with somebody else (I can’t remember now). But after this Nico drove a fantastic race- ladies and gentleman, this man is a rookie, and I really can’t say, that I ever saw such a great race of a new man in formula 1, which I can remember. (I’m quite young, btw: 16 ;) ) after a crash Nico had to go for an unplanned pit stopp and I think he fall back at 21st position and he did a great fight to come to the front- he made the FASTEST LAP of all there, and specially his last two overtakes from David Coulthard and Christian Klien were fantastic. I think here is a real good driver developing- what means developing- he actually is one of the best drivers there, I think. I predict him a really great future in formula 1- think on my words, guys, he will be a big once.
(and please- I say this to a german :P- even his dad Keijo Rosberg (better known as Keke) is finnish ;) )

8.
KLIEN Christian (AUT): QP:8;He made a point- jahuuuu :D- unfortuntely (for him ;)) Nico Rosberg overtook him in the last few laps, but anyway, he was the best of all 4 RedBull cars- also better than David Coulthard, and this was important. You did your job well, Christian, go on like this!

Kimi Räikkönen (l.) and Juan Pablo Montoya [both McLaren-Mercedes], last year in Interlagos (SaoPaulo/Brazil)
